The Foundation Center
The Foundation Center provides a variety of useful resources for grant-seekers. Since purchasing these resources can be costly, it is probably best for the occasional user to visit the Vermont State Library in Montpelier, which offers free access to the two foundation guides below. To schedule an appointment, call 802-828-3268.
The Foundation Center also offers very basic foundation information through their "Foundation Finder" at www.fdncenter.org
While at their site, sign up for their weekly RFP Bulletin, which arrives by e-mail and contains over a dozen weekly grant announcements.
FC Search is a CD-ROM file that contains 339,900 records of at least $10,000 awarded by the top 1,300 U.S. grant makers. Grant seekers can search this database by specific criteria, such as the recipient name and location, grant amount, and the name and geographic focus of the grant provider.
The Foundation Directory (both printed version and CD-ROM) is an annual publication which lists approximately 8,000 foundations with assets of more than $2 million or giving grants in excess of $200,000.
